Frequently Asked Questions
What is Microneedling?
With age, our skin loses its ability to regenerate and heal itself properly. It becomes less elastic, often resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. This is caused by lacking collagen in the skin.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes the science of micro-injuries to induce collagen production. The punctures made by microneedles stimulate innate healing and reparation processes in the skin.
The skin’s natural regeneration capabilities produce results that appear in the form of plumper and more youthful-looking skin with fewer imperfections. It not only livens up dull skin, but it also reduces acne scarring, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, minimizes pores, and plumps sagging skin.
What equipment do we use?
For régénérer®, our patients’ safety is of paramount importance. We make no compromises in the quality of treatment our patients receive. We use the amiea med microneedling system. This particular system is the only device currently with a double FDA approval
The device is perfected with German engineering, delivering lasting results for wrinkles and acne scar treatment. The system delivers ultra-precision with a six-needle tilting place. 900 punctures are delivered to the skin, improving the appearance of wrinkles and acne scars.
The EXCEED microneedling device has also been proven to produce dramatic improvements in skin laxity and texture. It stimulates the skin’s natural collagen production and healing processes. It results in overall better skin tightness. The results are similar when used for treating stretch marks.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Dr. Khalique makes it a point to ensure his patients’ health and experience before, during, and after the treatment. With microneedling, we begin the procedure by cleaning your skin to remove any makeup, dirt, and dead skin cells.
The physician will then move the EXCEED microneedling tool across your face or other treatment areas to rejuvenate it. Before making the punctures, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the skin for pain management.
Will it be painful?
The topical anesthetic is quite effective against preventing your skin from experiencing pain. Some patients do experience discomfort and pain. Fortunately, this is temporary and will go away after the treatment is over with proper care.
How soon can I see the results?
In theory, microneedling produces relatively quick results. Your skin starts to rejuvenate within a few weeks after the procedure. For maintenance, however, you need multiple treatments after the first one to sustain longevity and produce better results.
The results of the procedure vary from person to person. Factors, such as general health, age, lifestyle, and the volume of the filler itself, all impact the length of time results will last.
How long is the downtime?
Microneedling with the EXCEED tool is relatively less invasive and has close to no downtime. You may experience some redness in the treatment area but it usually lasts up to 48 hours only. With some precautions, you can get back to your routine after the treatment.
Here are some aftercare tips to be mindful of:
- Refraining from rubbing, touching or massaging the area for at least the first six hours after the procedure.
- Avoid going under the sun right after the procedure.
- Don’t expose the treatment area to extreme heat (tanning beds, etc.) or cold for at least 2 weeks after the procedure.
- Keep the treatment area makeup-free for the first 12 hours.
- Avoid smoking, consuming alcohol, and strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours.
*If you’re getting the procedure to prepare for an event like your wedding, please plan it 4 to 6 weeks before. This is to ensure there is no residual swelling, redness or bruising and to allow the fillers to settle properly.
Am I a candidate?
Even though the procedure is safe for generally healthy people, there are some patients it is not recommended to. If you experience any of the following, the procedure may not be suitable for you:
- Severe or chronic acne
- Bacterial, fungal or viral infections and/or diseases
- Keloid scarring
- Eczema or psoriasis
- Hemophilia or other blood disorders
- Take blood thinners
- Life-threatening diseases
- Severe allergies to metals or anesthetics
